La crisi c'è, è evidente. Solo sei Swan45 e undici x-35 a Scarlino per il III Memorial G.Falck sono l'evidente sintomo di un momento non facile per il mondo del superfluo, dei giocattoli, del tempo libero. Si rinuncia ad andar per mare non solo per effettiva mancanza di possibilità, lo si fa anche per scelta, per condotta morale, per rispetto del lavoro, della fatica e del denaro in un momento per tanti, tantissimi, molto difficile. Non è nemmeno detto che questo sia il fondo. Affermati economisti come Francesco Giavazzi, editorialista del Corriere e docente in Bocconi e al MIT, sostengono che ci troviamo al terzo piano precipitando dal decimo, id est: allo schianto non manca molto. Non parleremo quindi di ripresa nè di segnali di ottimismo, non ci permettiamo. Però a Palma, all'Hublot Palmavela si preparano a regatare domani alcune barche straordinarie, e non poche di queste sono nuove. E questo è reale.
Il signor Patrizio Bertelli, dopo averci fatto piangere la fine di Lunarossa a Valencia nel dopo Coppa, è tornato più convinto che mai nella vela giocata in acqua con un brand new STP65. Tutto argentato con la solita striscia rossa a prua ha già superato una disavventura - aveva disalberato negli allenamenti di Valencia - e sarà domani sulla linea di partenza nel Golfo di Palma timonato dallo starista Robert Scheidt. La presenza di Lunarossa ci ricorda ahimè degli altri 4 STP rimasti in cantiere o negli computer degli yacht designer. Tant'è, tra i minimaxi a Palma anche l'inglese nuovo di pacca RAN, armato dallo svedese inventore di Skype Niklas Zennstrom. Il tattico è il 'mascalzone' Adrian 'Edo' Stead e a prua c'è uno degli uomini del presidente Matteo Auguadro, per questo assente alla prima tappa di Malcesine. Un 72 piedi di puro agonismo, difficile da portare, da gestire, ma che ricambia con planate a 20 nodi e boline da 11, ben più veloce di un ACC5.
Fa il suo ingresso in società anche uno dei tre nuovi TP52 della stagione: Matador di Alberto Roemmers sarà timonato da Gullermo Parada con alla tattica il medagliato Santi Lange.
Il tattico ufficiale 2009, il compare Bruni, esordirà alla prima tappa dell'Audi MedCup di Alicante, per questa settimana sceglie il Melges32 dei fratelli Leporati. E qui ci manca il TP italiano Audi Q8, costretto a rinunciare a causa dell'incidente alla batteria. E.. 'za che te son', con la barca in cantiere i ragazzi di Simoneschi ne approfittano per ulteriori lavori e allungheranno la sessione di allenamenti valenciana. Li aspettiamo ad Alicante.
E poi a Palmavela c'è una barca italiana che fa parlare di sè ovunque vada. Un po' per le dimensioni fuori media, le linee pulite tipiche del cantiere da cui proviene e un po' per il colore verde ramarro.. Esence è pronto a competere nella categoria Wally mettendoci tutti i suoi 143 piedi. Basteranno per scappare lontano dalla crisi??

It is obvious to everyone’s eye that there’s a recession indeed: only six Swan45 and eleven x-35 took part to the 3rd Memorial G.Falck in Scarlino. The game is over now: no more luxurious extras, no more expensive toys and - most of all – no more free time. One gives up the sailing not only for the lack of material resources but as a responsible decision, as a moral act, as a sign of respect towards all of those who are facing a real tough time. And we haven’t even reached the bottom! Francesco Giavazzi, famous economist and editor of Corriere della Sera as well as teacher at Bocconi University and MIT, says that we have only reached the third floor but we are falling from the tenth, ie: there’s not much time left to the big bang. We won’t be daring talking then about optimism nor about signs of recovery.
But there are some extraordinary boats- most of them are brand new - that are going to start racing tomorrow at the Hublot Palmavela. And this is for real.
Mr Bertelli is back in the regatta business with a flashy new STP65 and this after mourning the end of Lunarossa right during the post-Cup in Valencia. The silver hull with the usual red tag has already survived tough times – they broke the mast during the training in Valencia – but it will be at the start line in the Palma Gulf tomorrow. The helmsman will be the star guru Robert Scheidt. Talking about Lunarossa reminds us of the other 4 STP which are still in the shipyard or even in the laptop of the yacht designer. Among the minimaxi we find the brand new British RAN owned by the Swedish inventor of Skype - Niklas Zennstrom. The tactician is Adrian 'Edo' Stead and the bowman is Matteo Auguadro, who couldn’t therefore attend the first M32 race in Malcesine. A 72 feet of pure racing power: tough to drive and tough to handle but very rewarding with gliding at 20 knots and upwind with 11, much faster than a ACC5.
We have also seen one of the three new TP52 of this season: Matador owned by Alberto Roemmers - helmsman Gullermo Parada and the medal tactician Santi Lange. The official tactician for 2009, our old friend Bruni, will begin only with the first race of the Audi MedCup in Alicante: right now he is sailing on the Leporati’s M32 in Malcesine. We are missing the Italian TP, Audi Q8, that was forced to a retreat due to some issues with the battery. And Simoneschi’s happy guys will take advantage of the accident to extend the works on the boat and have a longer training session in Valencia. We will see them in Alicante.
And there’s another Italian boat that already created alot of rumors not only for its dimensions (143 feet!) and its clean design (typical of a Wally!) but also for its color (geko- green!): Esence will be ready at the start line of the Wally’s class tomorrow. Will the 143 feet be able to sail away from the recession?
