The boat is a swan 62 named Berenice owned by Marco Rodolfi.
In 2008 she has crossed the Atlantic Ocean during the ARC and has partecipated at the Antigua sailing week, at a Swan meeting in BVI.
In Mediterranean Berenice was on the starting line at Giraglia and Swan Cup.
The 2008 Middle Sea Race was the last regatta in the program.
After 3 days with basically no wind the Scirocco came out.
Pantelleria was passed in 20-25 knots of breeze, the day after, on the way to Lampedusa a rain storm play this trick ... from 25 knots to 55 in only 3 minutes with lightnings, thunders and heavy rain.
Marco rodolfi was at the helm, matteo auguadro at the main and Pomi as tailer.
Full main, genoa heavy that breaks but, fortunately remains connected through the sheet ...
With all the main sheet released and the sail against the shrouds we did not have any problem, we didn't break even the battens.
The boat was simply perfect.
The crew outside couldn't help too much, the few inside were just keeping their sleep.

La barca si chiama Berenice, e' uno swan 62. L'armatore e' Marco Rodolfi.
Quest'anno, dopo avere attraversato l'atlantico nella ARC ha partecipato ad Antigua, ad un raduno Swan alle BVI. Appena tornata in mediterraneo ha partecipato alla Giraglia ed alla Swan cup.
L'ultima regata in programma e' stata la middle sea race. Dopo 3 giorni di bonaccia, doppiata Levanzo ha cominciato a soffiare lo scirocco. Abbiamo passato Pantelleria con 20-25 nodi e il pomeriggio successivo, sulla rotta per Lampedusa un temporale ci ha fatto questo scherzetto...da 25 nodi in 3 minuti ne sono venuti 55 con lampi tuoni e una valanga di acqua.
In quel momento Marco Rodolfi al timone, Matteo Auguadro alla randa e Marco Pomi al genoa.
Randa piena, genoa heavy gia' provato dalle ore precedenti che si rompe sulla base ma che miracolosamente rimane un tutt'uno con la scotta....
La randa,tutta mollata quasi contro le crocette resiste alla grande. Non si rompe nemmeno una stecca.
La barca non fa una piega, quelli in battagliola legati non possono fare molto, aspettiamo che cali un po' e ammainiamo il genoa. Qualcuno fuori turno sottocoperta non si sveglia nemmeno!!!
