Local boat Mascalzone Latino helmed by Vincenzo Onorato made the best of the first beat to lead the fleet by a small margin around the top mark. Behind him there is a tight bunch of spinnakers chasing him out on starboard on the first downwind leg.

At the midpoint the fleet is split almost evenly between the right and left of the run (looking upwind).
